Over the years, Kate has had the privilege of riding with and learning from several award-winning trainers across multiple disciplines. Her equestrian journey began under the guidance of her mother, Judy Pence, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and was a standout student in the prestigious colt starting program at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Judy also served as barn manager at a premier Arabian show barn, laying a strong foundation for Kate's horsemanship.

At the age of 13, Kate began training with David Ventura, a respected Dressage trainer based in Brentwood, California. Over the course of 15 years, she developed a deep understanding of classical riding principles—learning to communicate with horses through subtle seat and leg aids rather than relying on the reins.

Kate then broadened her skillset by training with her aunt, Rebecca Pence, who guided her through the world of Hunter/Jumper competition. Under Rebecca’s mentorship, Kate earned her first blue ribbon in the jumping arena.

Her passion later shifted to barrel racing, where she trained her AQHA mare from the ground up. Kate competed in the NBHA for three seasons, qualifying for the state finals twice and earning both championship buckles and a saddle alongside her trusted mare.

After retiring her mare, Kate began training her daughter in yet another discipline—cutting—under the expert instruction of Anthony Peixoto, a highly skilled and respected cutting trainer.

Currently, Kate is continuing to refine her barrel racing technique under the mentorship of Mary Jo Camera, further advancing her competitive goals.
